Had a bit of dumb luck earlier today and stumbled upon a fix for the pesky always-on behavior of the T-Mobile capacitive buttons. The fix restores the ability for the capacitive buttons to turn off the backlight while the user interacts with the touch screen. The way it was meant to be.
This post is for visibility and includes a flashable zip for ease of installation and chaining into your zip installs. If you don't mind doing the mod yourself, the steps are in my fix post.
Flash in TWRP and reboot -- no need for a cache wipe
If you modify the file yourself make sure you do a full reboot
